This paper, based on land utilization data during 2002-2007 in Changsha city, employs Shannon entropy function to analyze the entropy features of land utilization structure, evolvement and genesis of land utilization types, discusses the issues in using entropy, and presents some suggestions optimizing land utilization structure and sustainable development in Changsha city.
